How it Works: Purse Splitting and the Rental Pool

Once a player has equipped their rented clubs, they hit the “Start Round” button in the GolfN App (the App will verify that the golfer is actually playing via GPS and other anti-fraud measures). During the round, the renting player earns points based on the multipliers and attributes inherent to the club or bag of clubs they have chosen.

After the round is over, the points are split between the player and the owner, with GolfN taking a nominal 10% fee for facilitating the rental. To promote equitable access and equipment distribution, the system will limit rentals to once per day for each player. A standout feature is the rental system’s ability to automatically include any club in the rental pool. In other words, the rental clubs will be sourced from individual owners and collectors who are not currently using them to play. Owners will have the opportunity to veto any rental before it is processed as well as the ability to block out dates ahead of time when they may be playing.

Depending on the rarity level of the NFT golf club in question, a fee will need to be paid in points for “regripping” after a certain number of rounds before it can be used again for live play. Protocol revenue within the rental ecosystem is generated through membership fees and a rental rake of 10% of points earned, contributing to the platform’s sustainability. Memberships are not required to earn points, but they are required to rent clubs.
